NPC or DIE — Tasks, E Key & Reroll Rules

Complete Criminal objectives safely — interactions, free rerolls, and when paid rerolls are worth 14 Robux.

Last updated:

Criminal tasks are the win condition that forces you out of perfect hiding. While Sheriffs scan for movement tells, you must walk to interactive points across the Wild West map, press E (or tap on mobile), and finish objectives without getting shot. Task assignment is partly random — sometimes you spawn with a safe nearby marker, sometimes you draw a camped objective across open ground. The reroll system lets you swap bad assignments, but limits apply: one free reroll per match, with additional rerolls costing 14 Robux each. This guide explains how tasks work, how to interact efficiently, when to reroll, and how tasks connect to daily quests and round wins from the how-to-play guide.

Sheriff players should read Sheriff tactics to camp task markers — this page is written for Criminals executing objectives.

What Criminal tasks are

Tasks are shared team objectives shown on your UI progress bar. The Criminal team must complete every assigned task (or survive until time expires per win rules) before Sheriffs eliminate all Criminals. Individual Criminals may receive different markers, but progress is collective — your E press advances everyone.

Roughly 30 task locations exist per map rotation, spread through main street, alleys, saloons, and outskirts documented in map guides. Markers glow or prompt when you are in range. Interactions vary:

  • Hold E for a progress bar
  • Tap a minigame button sequence
  • Wait in place while a timer completes

All formats root you temporarily — the highest-risk moments of a Criminal round.

Using the E key and mobile interactions

On PC, walk into range and press E to start. Do not tap repeatedly unless the minigame requires it — spam can cancel progress on some objectives. On mobile, an on-screen prompt replaces E. Tablet players should enlarge UI buttons in Roblox settings if mis-taps fail tasks.

Full platform bindings live on the controls reference. Practice one empty lobby round to feel interaction radius — standing one step short looks like blending but wastes time while Sheriffs close in.

Before pressing E, run the three-second scan:

  1. Glance rooftops for Sheriff silhouettes
  2. Confirm an escape lane back to NPC crowds
  3. Start interaction from the blind side of the prop when possible

Details in criminal blending — tasks are where disguises break.

Free reroll: once per match

If your assigned task is unreasonable — sniper line from sheriff office, triple Sheriff stack on the marker, objective on wrong side of map during low time — open the task UI and reroll.

Rules as of standard public lobbies:

  • One free reroll per match
  • Reroll replaces your current assignment with a new random task
  • The free reroll does not carry between rounds — new match, new free reroll
  • Using free reroll early is smart; hoarding it while doing a doomed task loses round time

Rerolling does not pause Sheriffs or task bar progress from teammates. Swap quickly in cover, not standing in main street.

After the free reroll, each additional swap costs 14 Robux. This is optional convenience, not required progression. Consider paying when:

  • You are in a high-stakes lobby (event week, trading flex round recording)
  • One remaining task blocks 100% completion and your assignment is confirmed camped
  • You have Robux budget and value time over Cash farming

Skip paid rerolls when:

  • Teammates can finish remaining progress without you
  • Early round with plenty of time to walk a bad route safely
  • You already rerolled into something worse — second paid reroll is gamble

Robux rerolls do not increase trade value of items you win afterward — do not let sunk Robux push bad trades later.

Task routing strategy

Cluster by district — Finish all downtown markers before crossing to outskirts to minimize cross-map exposure.

Follow NPC lanes — Route to tasks along dense AI paths even if geometry allows shortcuts.

Communicate silently — If two Criminals share a district, stagger interactions so Sheriffs cannot hard-focus one marker.

Abandon and return — If a Sheriff camps you, leave and hit another task. Dead players reroll nothing.

Sync with timer — Late round, prioritize closest incomplete markers over perfect blending if the task bar is near completion.

Tasks vs daily quests

A daily quest might say “Complete 4 tasks” — those completions are E interactions in real rounds, benefiting from smart reroll use here.

Sheriff counterplay awareness

Sheriffs know tasks are mandatory. Expect:

  • Roof camps on high-traffic markers
  • Body-blocking interaction radius
  • Fake idle NPCs that are actually Sheriffs baiting you into range

If two Sheriffs rotate camp on your rerolled task twice, spend free reroll instead of feeding eliminations.

Completing tasks drives round wins, which feed Cash income and quest progress. One 14 Robux reroll might save a win worth more long-term Cash than the Robux spent — but only if the win was otherwise impossible. Most rounds should clear without paid rerolls if routing skill improves.

Redeem codes for free Cash before buying Robux rerolls habitually — codes like milestone drops grant hundreds of Cash without spend.

Common task mistakes

  • Rerolling a safe task because it felt boring
  • Starting E on main street without roof scan
  • Using paid reroll twice into worse geography
  • Ignoring teammate progress bar — solo heroing last task in a triple camp
  • Confusing daily quest reset with reroll limits

Practice drill

Play three Criminal rounds focusing only on task discipline:

  1. Round A — No reroll, only safe routing
  2. Round B — Free reroll at first sign of camp
  3. Round C — Decide before spawn whether 14 Robux is allowed this match

Review deaths — shot during interaction or during travel? Travel deaths need map study; interaction deaths need blending work.

Quick reference

  • InteractE / mobile prompt at markers
  • Free reroll — 1 per match
  • Paid reroll — 14 Robux each after free used
  • Win tie-in — Team task bar to 100% or survive per rules

Tasks are the tension engine of NPC or DIE. Master the E key, respect reroll limits, and Sheriffs lose their clock — even without firing a single lucky shot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many free task rerolls do I get?

One free reroll per match. It resets when a new round starts.

How much do extra rerolls cost?

14 Robux per reroll after you use your free one for that match.

What key completes tasks on PC?

Press E when standing in range of a task marker. Mobile uses on-screen prompts instead.

Can I reroll daily quests?

No. Daily quests are separate from in-round Criminal task rerolls.

Should I always use my free reroll?

Use it when your assignment is dangerous or far — not when a safe route already exists.

Do tasks count toward daily quest progress?

Yes, if the daily quest objective asks for task completions in real rounds.
